Frequently Asked Questions

What are your office hours?

I am in the office Mondays through Thursdays. I typically schedule appointments between the hours of 8 am - 5 pm.

I’ve never gone to counseling before, what can I expect?

There is room in everyone’s life for growth and change, especially during times of pain. Reaching out for help is a courageous first step. I provide a welcoming, warm environment for you to feel comfortable to open up at your own pace. I will provide observations and feedback and work to create a positive working relationship with you. The counseling process can feel challenging and difficult at times, yet with perseverance, vulnerability, and strength, we can reach your goals together.

How long will therapy take?

The amount of sessions will depend on many factors, such as severity and complexity of the issues and how motivated for treatment and growth you are. It takes time to discover and undo patterns of behavior we have been utilizing our entire lives. Together, we will create reasonable goals for your specific process. Duration of therapy could range anywhere from 3-4 sessions, to 10-15 sessions, to longer-term therapy.

Do you only work with couples?

No. I work with a variety of mental health issues. My counseling lens focuses around sex and relational issues, yet I work with you as an individual as well to create a collaborative set of goals that will suit your specific needs.

What are my payment options?

I accept private pay through cash or major credit card. I can occasionally bill insurance as an “out of network provider.” Some insurance companies will accept a “superbill” in order to reimburse you for sessions paid out of pocket. I encourage you to check your plan for your specific insurance benefits and possible exclusions.

Can you prescribe medication?

No. I am a Masters level therapist. Only medical doctors, general physicians, some nurse practitioners, and psychiatrists with an MD can prescribe medication. My role as your therapist is to help with the thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that interfere with your daily life. I am happy to work with your provider who does prescribe medication or refer you to someone who can help facilitate the management of medications.
