Why Yoga?
Yoga by definition means “union.” As human beings, we are complex in nature. Our emotional and mental experiences tend to manifest in our physical bodies and vice versa. The practice of yoga allows an opportunity to focus on breath and movement to initiate connection of mind, body, and spirit. As we become more mindful and connected, we can release pain and stress from the body in order to invite positivity and light into our existence.
The practice of yoga has many benefits, both physical and mental. Yoga increases flexibility, improves balance, and lowers the stress hormone, cortisol. Yoga decreases symptoms of depression and anxiety. Breathing exercises help slow the nervous system, decreasing the symptoms of stress and improving mode. Yoga offers a space for self reflection, promoting kindness and self compassion for continued growth and self awareness.
Yoga allows us to remove judgment and encourages us to be present with who we are in the present moment.
Yoga can not only be a technique utilized in my therapy space, it can also become a major tool in your toolbox of coping strategies that can help get you through difficult moments in your life.
